What is quiet luxury fashion & how to wear this major trend

Quiet luxury & stealth wealth are trending but what do they actually mean

Quiet luxury and stealth wealth have become buzz words in the fashion world and the latest fashion trends thanks to shows like Succession, Anatomy of a Scandal and The Diplomat. Pop culture, movies, TV shows and celebrities have always influenced trends and this is one trend taking off in a big way. So what does quiet luxury mean? Why is this set to be one the biggest trends this year and how can you wear this polished trend with or without deep pockets? This is stereo-typing somewhat but the ultra-wealthy, especially old money have often preferred high-quality materials and beautifully constructed pieces over logos and this is what this trend is all about. Here’s everything you need to know about the quiet luxury aesthetic in the world of fashion. From the best quiet luxury handbags and outfits to the best quiet luxury brands to shop.

When I lived in England my style was definitely more classic but as a Fashion Blogger it’s tended to follow the trends. I’ve definitely been more into logomania, bright colors and Barbiecore over the last few seasons.

However, I’m definitely feeling the inclination to lean more towards the quiet-luxury aesthetic again or at least incorporate more of it into my daily outfits. Trends don’t mean you have to dress that way 100% of the time and there’s always multiple fashion trends going on at any one time. They’re just a way to inspire your dress choices each day and I’m still very much going to be wearing pink, pearls and logoed brands.

What is quiet luxury

Quiet luxury when referring to fashion refers to brands and pieces that whisper wealth to create polished and effortless looks with. It’s nothing new and has been around for a long time. There’s no large logos or prints but rather unfussy staples at jaw-dropping prices.

Think classic styles, more minimalist designs, the perfect fit, beautifully constructed pieces like a Birkin bag, ultra luxe cashmere sweater or brands that if you know, you know like Delvaux. The wearers don’t need a logo to scream that they’re ultra wealthy. It’s all about discretion.

It’s the wearer who comes into a jewelry store in Hunter boots and a Barbor rather than the person dripping in labels that’s often the one with cash to burn.

‘quiet luxury’ is, in fact, a whole mindset for living. It’s showing an inclination towards premium basics – not just in your wardrobe, but in every aspect of your life. Certain small touches can be ‘quiet luxury’…and at a surprisingly low price point.

Will the quiet luxury trend last

Quiet luxury or stealth wealth fashion isn’t a new style movement, it always has been and will be in style. Because it’s high quality, luxury fashion, usually in neutrals based around timeless classics and quality craftmanship rather than labels and color trends. It’s not a new way of dressing but usually reserved for the ultra rich because of the cost.

However, there are lots of ways to wear this aesthetic whether you have disposable income to burn or are looking for luxe for less options where only a trained eye would spot the difference.

Best quiet luxury brands list

These are some the best luxury fashion houses known for their quality and understated styles:

  • Hermès
  • Delvaux
  • Loro piana

  • Jil Sander
  • The Row
  • Tove
  • Khaite

How to create quiet luxury looks

If you’re looking for some stealth wealth fashion styling inspiration, think Sienna Miller in Anatomy of a Scandal, Siobhan “Shiv” Roy in Succession or Kate Middleton. Just google their images and you’ll get lots of outfit ideas.

A beautifully cut and draped black midi dress or silk dress with simple gold accessories works beautifully for everyday. It doesn’t need a designer belt to finish it off, keep it sleek and simple.

For Fall and Winter, layer a tweed or quilted field coat over a roll neck sweater, jeans and flat black leather boots. Holland Cooper makes some truly beautiful coats and jackets that are ideal for this aesthetic. Finish with a tribly or baker boy hat to complete a look that says you just left your country estate.

A silky button down shirt or crisp white shirt, jeans and loafers is another everyday smart casual way to wear this trend.

Build your quiet luxury looks

When choosing pieces, go for quality craftenmanship and materials over quantity or labels. These timeless pieces and leather goods work whether you’re creating a stealth wealth look or building a capsule wardrobe that will stand the test of time. As conscious consumerism becomes more popular, it’s worth investing in quality pieces that will last you. Rather than just disposable seasonal pieces or at least having a mix of both. As Shiv Roy goes to prove, you can never have too many neutral roll necks in your closet!

This major trend is more about a sense of exclusivity rather than prominent logos to signal wealth. The more exclusive and limited edition the pieces the better for this trend. Whether that’s a vintage Hermès bag or custom shoes from an Italian fashion house.

These are some of the most beautiful luxury and luxe for less pieces to build your looks from everyday basics to shoes and quiet luxury handbags.
