Free People clothes review & favorite styles we’re shopping this season

Free People clothes are one of those brands that’s great for everyday basics but is it worth it? Is it on trend? The Free People collection founded by Dick Hayne is pretty vast with nearly 1000 pieces. There’s pretty much a style for everyone whether you’re looking for a basic tank and jeans, classic linen vest, or cute summer dress. So here’s some help navigating it with my top picks for Free People dresses, sweaters, shorts and pieces from their collection. Along with a Free People review to decide whether it’s right for you or not. I couldn’t find any current promo codes for Free People that actually work but if I do I’ll add them here.

Back in the 1970’s, a young man named Dick Hayne planted a seed in the maze of streets and trees that make up West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He opened a store and called it Free People. Free People nurtured the young people who lived there and shopped there, who looked for a little of their own freedom in the clothes they wore.

Free People

The name has changed over time from Free People to Urban Outfitters and then both names were brought back as 2 separate companies. The contemporary brand aims to embody femininity, courage, and spirit while offering great quality and affordability.

Free people review

Here’s everything you need to know about this brand including quality, sizing, pricing and fit.

Is Free People good quality

So far I’ve found their clothes to be consistently good quality. Especially for the price. I’ll update this as I try more pieces if my opinion changes.

Do Free People clothes run true to size

I’ve found the fit and sizing of Free People to run true to size in all categories. The pink sweater dress I’m wearing is an XS which is my regular size. If you’re shopping the brand on Revolve and in doubt, scroll to the bottom of each item and there’s a fit graph to show peoples opinions of how that particular item fits.

How much does Free People clothing cost | Price

Free People clothing is pretty fairly priced and reasonable IMO. It’s somewhere you can pick up a basic tank top for $20 versus say Camila Coehlo for $138 and not find much difference in quality.

The price range is quite varied from high to low and you can also pick up some really good sale finds for under $50 on a lot of their clothing categories.

  • Free People shorts and skirts run at around $28-$128
  • Tops $20-168
  • Sweaters $30-168
  • Free People dresses $33-$498
  • Jumpsuits $64-308
  • Denim: $32 for jean shorts to $298 for a denim bomber jacket.

Where to find Free People

The first Free People boutique opened in Paramus, New Jersey in 2002 and they now sell in over 1,400 specialty boutiques and stores around the World. They’re also in department stores like Nordstrom and Bloomingdales whose FP sections have been designer to really focus on shopping experiences for the Free People woman. As well as online stores like Free People and Revolve that offer free shipping and returns.

These are my top picks for basic tank tops, cute bodysuits, chic linen vests, floaty summer dresses, trending denim skirts and new arrivals. I’m also eyeing this slouchy jumpsuit for a comfortable travel outfit which is on my wish list as I do a lot of flying for work in the Fall.

Denim maxi skirts are trending right now and this one is both stylish and under $120. The seam detailing and wash is perfection and it’s so easy to style either as a denim on denim outfit or with a basic tank, crop top or tube top.

More denim maxi skirts.

Free People dress

How cute is this little black dress for Spring and Summer. It comes in more colors but it’s the back on this feminine Free People dress that make it a special and a little bit unique.

Anything but basic bodysuit

This one shoulder, puff sleeve bodysuit is one of their best sellers. It also comes in more colors and is a thong so no worries about VPL.

Free People shorts

These look like a skirt but actually have built in shorts making them skorts. Which are way easier to wear than denim mini skirts which tend to ride up and show way too much when you sit. Or at least that’s my experience with them.

This style is another Free People clothes best seller and comes in a couple of different washes.

Back to basics

It’s hard to beat this lightweight ribbed jersey fabric for price. It’s $20 and comes in lots of colors making it a great everyday basic and wardrobe essential.

Reviews say it’s the perfect essential top, buttery soft, runs true to size and they like the higher neckline. However, some say the lighter colors are see-through. So be prepared for that.

Free People dress

I can’t believe this sexy black midi dress is under $100. I love the on trend cut outs and comfy jersey fabric. It can be hard to find dresses that are both sexy and comfortable but this one manages to nail both while not leaving tan lines across your shoulders.

The looser fit of the skirt also means more air flow in the summer and less worries about having a food baby eating in it. It’d make the perfect summer dinner dress.

Bookmark this page to check back for active promo codes for Free People. I’ll also update the review with more photos as I order more from their collection. I have a feeling the jumpsuit and tank top will be headed to my closet sooner than later.
