Hair loss after covid sucks! I reached out to Philip Kingsley for a personalized hair loss treatment plan. Here’s what happened
Covid hair loss is real and it finally caught up with me or at least that’s what my trichologist is attributing it to and it sucks! Hair loss for whatever the reason is always emotionally challenging and frightening. When/will the shedding stop? Will it grow back? What can I do. I sought the help of the Trichologists at Philip Kingsley to put together a hair loss treatment plan, There’s no miracle pill or fast track back to a full head of hair but I was determined to at least do everything I could do at least grow back as much of it as possible and to get my healthiest roots yet. My hair loss after covid journey
I was seriously ill with covid last year. I slept for 3 days straight, was bed-ridden for a week and on an inhaler for a month. It took months to get back to full health. Then just when I did, the hair loss started.
I’m talking 3 giant hair fulls of hair fall out every time I washed and brushed it. Along with it just snapping off mid-length. What was a full, thick head of hair turned into thinning hair, a receding hair line and super fine and wispy ends. I’m definitely having a major trim at my next hairdresser appointment.
This went on for about 8-9 weeks and I’m grateful it stopped as suddenly as it started but was I going to live on a wish and a prayer and hope that it would slowly go back to how it was. Heck no!
I know there’s nothing I can do about the mid lengths and ends. I can slather them in conditioner but they’re basically done. I’m not going to suddenly turn into Rapunzel and the mid-ends aren’t going to magically repair and become thick and luscious.
What I can do is treat the scalp, roots and nurture it from the inside out to encourage healthy regrowth and that’s what Philip Kingsley is known for. Along with the famous Philip Kingsley Elasticizer.

They’re the only Trichologists I knew by name and one my niece who is a hairdresser in London also recommended. Since I’m not in London right now, I reached out to their New York location to see if they could help me.
They offer both in person and virtual consultations to prescribe your hair treatment for you so that you can do them from both the US and UK without actually having to go into their Trichology centers.
How to prepare for your Philip Kingsley trichology appointment
When you reach out to them they’ll then send you details of the different in-person and virtual appointment options. They’ll also send you forms to fill in that cover your hair loss experience, lifestyle, what you’re currently doing for your hair, medications and supplements that you’re taking.
You’ll also have to send in lots of specific photos of your hair and your blood test results. So that they can get a full picture of how your health may be affecting your hair.
It took a bit of patience waiting to schedule to see my doctor, book my blood work, wait for the results and schedule with Philip Kingsley. I just wanted to get going with the hair loss treatment as soon as possible.
Once they have everything they need from you, you’ll be sent a Zoom link for your appointment time or in office appointment details.
What to expect during your Philip Kingsley consultation
I went for the more expensive consultation that lasted for an hour and included four-step regime tailored to your specific hair and scalp needs: Shampoo, Conditioner, their award-winning Philip Kingsley Elasticizer pre-shampoo treatment and a scalp mask (valued $150). They did also prescribe a few other products which were an additional fee. I’ll get to the actual products prescribed and treatment plan in a bit.
My Trichologist was really easy to talk to and really thorough. We started by talking about my concerns and what was going on. Looking at my hair loss dates and blood test results to find the cause. Since my levels were all pretty good and we couldn’t attribute it to stress and the dates lined up with what they’ve been seeing as covid related hair loss that’s what it was attributed to.
We then went over what I ate in day. So that she was able to make suggestions on where I was lacking to be able to get certain things like Iron, Vitamin D and Zinc up to the levels she wanted to see.
Obviously that’s going to be different for everyone but for me it included things like adding steak once week, having a tomato with it for Vitamin C and increasing my carbs and healthy fats.
We then went over my supplements which she had me send in photos of the nutritional panels. We actually took some things out since I was doubling up unnecessarily on certain things. The only thing we added was the Philip Kingsley Gelatin supplements.
Lastly, after having all of the information and checking what was realistic for me time and maintenance wise e.g. was I prepared to wash it everyday, she prescribed a treatment plan. All of the products were sent out to me along with video instructions on how to use everything.
My covid hair loss experience & treatment plan | Part 1
I’d never suffered from hair loss before but a few months after having covid really badly, I lost serious amounts of hair for 3 months straight. The sudden hair loss (Telogen Effluvium) stopped as suddenly as I started but left me with ragged ends, balding spots and fine hair that had always been thick.
I turned to Philip Kingsley Trichology experts for help. Here’s what happened and where I am now with my hair. I’m going to keep sharing my journey with updates every couple of months to share my progress and hopefully results.
Lastly, she asked me to send in hair samples from 2 days in a row of the fall out after washing my hair. So that she could measure the diameter now and as we go to make sure it’s not thinning.
My Philip Kingsley treatment plan
Philip Kingsley hair care and treatment plan is different for everyone and prescribed for you. So just copying mine won’t necessarily be what your hair needs as mine was covid hair loss related and not an underlying health issue. Also, some of the things like the scalp mask are prescription only.

My hair loss treatment plan includes both dietary recommendations, supplements, weekly and daily hair care treatments:
Weekly treatment
Once a week I have to use the H1 scalp mask and Philip Kingsley Elasticizer as a pre-shampoo treatment. It took me about 10 minutes to apply it really thoroughly the first time, so I’m hoping I get quicker at it. I then leave have to leave it on for at least 20 minutes, double shampoo and continue with the rest of my haircare routine.
Daily hair care routine
I also had to agree to washing my hair everyday. I know! After years of thinking less was more when it came to washing it and that your hairs natural oils were good for it.
They want me to wash it everyday so that the scalp drops are going onto a clean head. They used the analogy that you wouldn’t put your skincare on top of a full face of makeup. You also don’t want to put scalp drops onto a dirty scalp. Especially as I work out 6x a week.

What’s next in my covid hair loss treatment plan
The treatment plan isn’t set in stone and they don’t just create it and then abandon you. The idea is that you’ll continue with short follow-up appointments either in person at a Clinic or virtually to check in. So that their Trichologists can make sure it’s working for you and make any adjustments to your hair loss treatment plan that might be needed.
