The Winter runway trends to know and how to make them work in real life
Winter fashion trends 2023-2024 for women are moving away from casual pieces and back towards more classic, chic heritage styles that are quintessential to the fashion houses. With lots of 1950’s inspired fitted waists, straight skirts, and more voluminous midis in the form of corolla dresses. Saint Laurent brought back the skirt suit and cigarette pants but in a more contemporary way. Including massively oversized blazers but with a more structured design than the slouchier styles we’ve seen from designers over the last few years.
At Balmain, Olivier Rousteing also went back to the archives with a classic, chic but modern aesthetic I can’t get enough of. Think sleek tailoring, feminine fitted off the shoulder styles, big bows, polka dots, chandelier earrings, ladylike gloves and large hats in a predominantly black and white palette. If you love color, red is the color to be seen in for Winter 2023/2024 for a bold, sensual look. A red dress of some iteration was seen on pretty much every Fall/Winter 2023-2024 runway.

1. Femme Fatale Winter Fashion 2023-2024 | Red dresses
Red is another color that kept popping up at the Fall Winter 2023-2024 fashion shows. While it might not be original, it’s a pretty seasonal classic that’s empowering and that I adore.
Red dresses especially were everywhere for Fall Winter 2023-2024. Alexander McQueen showed red dresses with sexy cut outs and hip high leg slits, puff ball dresses with high low hems and red leather styles. Slinky satin halterneck maxi dresses were seen at Ann Demeulemeester. Valentino showed red maxi shirt dresses with slits up to there and skinny black ties.
Courreges opted for sheer red maxi dresses versus warmer red turtlenecks at Fendi and red v neck long sleeve mini dresses at Loewe. If you’re looking for something more glam metallic red cocktail dresses were seen at Ferragamo Fall/Winter 2023-204 and sultry red velvet dresses at Alberta Ferretti.

The sexiest way to embrace the red dress Winter 2023/2024 trend is with a sexy lace or sheer style. Like the seductive lace and satin mini dress at Mugler, sheer red midi at Gucci styled with red sunglasses and blue flat mules, or slinky Blumarine style. Not necessarily great for the cold but sure to sizzle! So layer up with this fashion trend.
2. 1950’s dresses
1950’s dresses ruled the Fall Winter 2023-2024 runways. If you love classic style and a snatched waist, this Winter fashion trend’s for you. It’s such an elegant look. Embrace this pin up style with a oversized petticoat style dress and belt it for extra waist definition. As seen at Dior, Bottega Veneta and Balmain.
3. Sexiest Women’s Winter Fashion Trends 2023-2024 | Micro bras
For the uninhibited woman, the microbra is another not so practical Winter 2023 – 2024 fashion trend. So get ready to layer up with oversize blazers, shawl wraps, feather shrugs and opera gloves. Micro bras were all over the Fall/Winter 2023/2024 fashion shows including, Gucci’s crystal logo iteration, CDGS barely there crystal flower bra which were more like nipple cover-ups and would look stunning under a sheer maxi dress, the feather used as a bra at Ann Demeulemeester, and a sexy black leather bra at Gabriela Hearst.
Fleur Du Mal and ASOS do some luxe for less bras for 2023-2024. Add opera gloves to make this look even more fashion forward this season.
4. High Low Hems
High low hem dresses are back! As seen at Alexander McQueen, Michael Kors, and Moschino.
5. Off the Shoulder Winter Fashion 2023
Off the shoulder and strapless dresses and tops were seen at Balmain, Alexander McQueen and Nina Ricci Fall/Winter 2023/2024 fashion shows.
6. Skirts Layered Over Pants Winter Fashion Outfits 2023-2024
Skirts layered over pants were seen at Fendi, Givenchy and Chanel and are a trend which is a throwback to the 2000’s. For this Winter fashion trend stick to matching colors and tones in more muted and neutral colors.
7. Black Neck Ties
Black neck ties are giving me flashbacks to the Avril Lavigne era but are now less punk and more chic. As seen at Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana and Dior styled with tailored shirts and skirts.
8. Tartan | Winter fashion color trends 2023
A classic winter print that’s back in fashion for 2023/2024. Think less punk and more classic Burberry. Burberry featured all colors of tartan including red and pink, yellow, and purple and black. Thom Browne featured red and black in the form of oversized long line coats.
Daniel Lee featured classic red and green tartan oversized jackets that grazed the floors, as well as skirts, shirts and giant shawls at the Saint Laurent Fall/Winter 2023/2024 show. Dior showcased more muted and fitted grey and white longline jackets, as well as classic reds.
The sweatshirt and jacket print to cozy up in this Winter is most definitely tartan and a lot of these options are on sale with up to 60% off.

9. Structured Shoulders
Structured shoulders are still in style for 2023 – 2024 for both dresses and tops. As seen in all colors and different materials at Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen and Proenza Schouler Fall/Winter 2023/2024.
10. Short Shorts | Sexy Womens Winter Fashion

Short shorts aren’t the most wearable Winter 2023-2024 trends but they’re super cute. Style them with all of your winter blazers, coats and sheer black tights.
11. XXS-XXL Bows
I love this feminine and romantic Winter fashion trend and Balmain did it beautifully. With elegant white satin shirts styled with edgier black leather mini skirts both featuring oversized structured bows. Along with stunning pearl embellished styles, flattering waistlines and even bow embellished shoes.
An absolute show stopper was the Balmain green satin cap sleeve blazer dress featuring an oversized bow. GMDH Fall/Winter 2023-2024 collection also featured oversized satin bows. Along with Moschino whose red satin high low gown was a knock out! Nina Ricci featured sheer polka dot style bow dresses. If you prefer smaller bows, they’re in style for Winter 2023/2024 too. As seen at Valentino.

12. Feathers
Feathers are still very much in style and were seen on everything from coats to. Valentino showcased a floor skimming black and white feather coat, Bottega went for color with their mint green and brown feather coat, Loewe went full on with feather tops styled with feather pants, Coperni featured eye catching metallic silver feather tops and dresses, and Nina Ricci went larger than life with her colorful designs.

13. Leather
Leather is always a part of Winter fashion and we love it for it’s practicality and cool girl aesthetic. From sexy red leather dresses at Alexander McQueen to sleek black leather trench coats at Louis Vuitton and Chanel. There were also a lot of creative uses of leather including embroidered flowers, embossed logos and Chanel’s leather camellia petals. There’s a style and way for everyone to embrace this 2023/2024 winter fashion trend.

14. Sheer Everything
Sheer fabrics might seem more suited to Spring and Summer but there’s no hiding from this fashion trend that’s still going strong. They bring back the art of layering and give a feminine touch to sometimes stark winter styles. From sheer lace and tulle dresses to sheer black tights and ankle socks the one trend you’re not going to miss this Winter is sheer.
Some of the prettiest See through dresses of this Winter fashion trend were in the form of lace dresses at Balenciaga, Gucci and Off-White. This trend may sound daunting. However, styled worn over black pants rather than just lingerie makes this winter trend wearable IRL.
The other way to wear this Bridgerton inspired winter trend is by layering pieces to create a really unique and more delicate look for the day or night. Try layering a sheer long sleeve top or skirt over camisoles, slip dresses, knitted fabrics or turtlenecks.
This is a winter trend to have fun experimenting with and the one above is the one I have favorited that I’ll probably end up buying to wear for my birthday in November.
15. Polka Dots
Another 1950’s inspired Winter fashion trend led by Nina Ricci who featured sheer polka dot style bow dresses, Balmain who showed voluminous midi skirts and Miu Miu’s romantic breezy halterneck polka dot dresses. Whether it’s sheer, mini, maxi, small or giant polka dot print (as seen at Valentino), the one rule is to just wear them this Winter!
16. White Button Down Shirts | Classic Womens Winter Fashion Trends
With 80’s power dressing in the shape of oversized blazers being a big part of Winter 2023/2024 fashion it only makes sense that button down white shirts are back in style too. Seen tucked into black mini and midi skirts at Dior and Prada.

17. Oversized blazers
Oversized blazers with just as oversized shoulder pads were everywhere from Prada to Courreges to Saint Laurent Fall/Winter 2023-2024. The most popular colors for this winter fashion trend on the runways were black or white.
18. Shawl wraps
Oversized shawl wraps are the practical winter trend that make sense to layer over the micro bras, 80’s power suits and sheer styles trending this Winter. For the most chic look for Winter 2023/2024 create monochromatic looks with black pants and stiletto pumps as seen at Saint Laurent.
19. Black and White Winter 2023/2024 color trend
If red or tartan’s too much for you, black and white and houndstooth is very much in fashion too. From chic Balmain outfits to black velvet dresses at Emporio Armani, black dresses styled over white turtlenecks at Chloe and lace and sparkly black and white iterations at Chanel.

20. Beige winter color trend 2023-2024
Beige in all shades is back in style in a major way for Fall and Winter 2023/2024 and an easy way to embrace the quiet luxury fashion trend. It always looks elegant, so add a camel longline coat or luxe beige sweater to your winter collection this season for a seriously effortlessly chic look. As seen at Hermes, Saint Laurent and Michael Kors.
21. Scenic Landscapes | Pretty Womens Winter Fashion Trends 2023-2024
One of the prettiest fashion trends for Summer and Fall continues into Winter 2023/2024 if the form of watercolor landscape prints. Style these pretty dresses that evoke memories of Summer over sheer black tights or under shawl scarves, another Winter fashion trend.
22. Double denim
Sorry, there’s no getting away from this fashion trend, it’s still going strong for Fall and Winter 2023/2024. Just make sure the denims are an exact match for a cohesive on trend look. As seen at Ami, Y/Project and Versace to name a few.

23. Little Black Dress
LBD’s are always in style but this Winter the designers got extra creative with them. Think unusual necklines styled with statement shoes. As seen at Loewe, Alexander McQueen and Louis Vuitton.
24. Gloves To Complete Your Winter Outfits
I’ve been waiting for ladylike opera gloves to come back in fashion ever since Dua Lipa rocked long white leather gloves in Levitating and again this week after just watching the movie ‘The Last Letter From Your Lover’.
The chic, feminine, 1950’s aesthetic continues with leather, tulle and satin gloves. An affordable and practical way to give your winter wardrobe and outfits an update. As seen at Dolce & Gabanna, Saint Laurent, Versace and Dior.
I’ve always loved the glamorous retro looks from the 60’s and bought a pair to wear to a ball this Summer. Plus long gloves are great for hiding nails that are overdue a manicure and my hands are always freezing!

Wear them with a cap or 3/4 length sleeve to make the most of them and wait for the compliments to roll in. I’ve added a pair that works with touch screens if the thought of taking them on and off all of the time annoys you.
